Stolen Words

Stolen Words is a heartwarming children’s picture book written by Melanie Florence and illustrated by Gabriele Grinard. Stolen Words is a book about residential schools how much they affected the first nations population, the book talks about a young girl asking her grandfather to teach her Cree but after the agonizing experience of residential school, her grandfather forgot how to speak the language and after his granddaughter saw how much pain her grandfather was in she decided to give her grandfather her dreamcatcher to help him find his stolen words. I think this is an astounding book and truly shows how much the first nations people were affected by the residential schools. One of the many reasons why this book is incredible is because of the illustrations they very colorful and vibrant. This is a marvelous book that teaches children not to do the same mistakes of the past and that we are all humans and no one should be treated with less respect.
